Angela Riotto
Assistant Professor, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College
Angela Riotto received her Ph.D. from the University of Akron. Her research examines the ways in which both U.S. and Confederate former prisoners of war discussed their captivity between 1862 and 1930. She worked as a historian with the Army University Press Films Team, developing documentaries to teach military history and U.S. Army doctrine. In Summer 2021, she joined the Department of Military History at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College as an Assistant Professor.

An effective military only functions under the principles of equality and inclusion. Manpower policy regarding inclusion and equality has only changed when forced to by the necessities of war or from outside social and political influence. This course will examine the history of service of minority groups and women in the U.S. Military, major amendments to manpower policy, and historic problems with presenting a less than unified force.
